Here we go..a fresh start.

Ok. I am over the hysterics, and have come to terms with the loss of the photos. I am so lucky that to be in a situation where forgetting about stuff like that is easy when surrounded by beauty...New Zealand is only getting more and more beautiful as we continue to travel.

After 3 raining days in Dunedin we took two days to drive to Te Anau, which would be our jumping off point for visiting Milford Sound. On our first day there, I had my unfortunate camera accident, so there aren't any pics from our drive along the southern scenic highway, but trust me....it really was scenic. We had encounters with seals, penguins and my personal favorite; sheep! I think we have seen more sheep than people in NZ, despite being here in peak tourist season, but they are slowly becoming my favorite animal. We accidently took a wrong turn and ended up on a farm road. Soon enough we were faced with sheep on the road. We startled them so much, that the whole herd took off in a run. In our attempts to turn aroundwe ended up herding them with our red Ford Focus...way too fun. The funniest part was when we finally turned around, there was a small sheep left behind and he had been chasing the car the whole way so he could rejoin the group. Fabulous Kiwi fun! Sheep herding sponsered by Ford. :)

Oh yeah...back to Milford Sound.

Milford Sound.

Milford Sound is part of the Fiordland National Park in the south-west part of the south island. It is yet another World Heritage site that we visited, and again it did not disappoint. It is beautiful. To take it all in we took part in a kayak tour around the sound.

We had luck on our side (after the camera incident, I like to think that God was reminding me that everything is ok) and fell on a beautiful day, almost 26 degrees, which is almost unheard of in this area. The kayaking was exhausting at times, but definitely worth the all the effort.

Ready for the water.

Happy Mark.

Our next stop…Queenstown. Thankfully, the great weather has followed us here to this lovely lakeside city. Although it is very built up as a tourist town, you can’t really fault anyone for wanting to be here. It is so pretty, so I guess that it’s fair that the locals make a profit off their views.

Queenstown is the place for adrenaline junkies and there are thousands of different ways to catch a thrill. As promised to many people, Mark and I just completed our first adrenaline adventure…the Shotover Canyon Swing. It was terrifying and amazing …I am so happy that we had the guts to do it. Highly recommended to anyone planning a visit to this part of the world.

We jumped off that!

Just about....
.
Post-jump for me...pre-jump for Mark.

Second thoughts?

Ok….that’s all for now. We are still running high on the thrill of the canyon swing and will hit the pub in an attempt to calm the neurons.

Only 2 weeks left…it keeps getting better, so lots to look forward to still. Who would have ever thought we would be here now? It still amazes me when I think of this whole experience. (Ok…enough cheese). Love and miss you all,

Sarah and Mark
